Apple Maps Is Used 3x As Often As Google Maps On iOS Device

Apple Maps is now used more than three times as often as its competitors Google Maps on the iPhones and iPads, reports the Boston Globe. Up to now, it has reached more than 5 billion map-related requests each week. This is a great news for Apple, considering since its launch, Apple Maps got lots of critics associated with the imprecise in naming the places.

Apple Maps was released in 2012 as a default maps platform together with iOS 6 to replace the Google Maps on iOS. Apple kept on fixing their map app in a very short time and turned it into one of the best mapping services available.

“We are fast learners and we are fast at fixing things,” said Apple VP Greg “Joz” Joswiak. “We learned the maps business incredibly fast.” The Boston Globe says that Apple is now collecting data from over 3,000 sources for business listings, traffic and other information.

On the iOS 9, Apple Maps gets the upgrade, such as Public Transportation and Transit to show you lines and stations for subways, buses, trains, and ferries right on the map in some places in certain countries. Apple says it’s not finished with improving Maps and it definitely still has some work to do, especially in rolling out transit directions for more places and countries.
