How to Authorize and Deauthorize iTunes on Your Mac

iTunes application on Mac is more than just a media player application. You can find the iTunes Store and the App Store inside, where you can download music, movies, TV shows and apps. Besides on the iTunes application, you can also access the iTunes Store and the App Store on iOS devices, such as iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. If you used to download contents from both stores through your iOS device, maybe one day you will wonder, how to transfer or download the purchased content from iOS device to iTunes on Mac? Through this article, I will share how to authorize and deauthorize iTunes on your Mac.

To be able to do that, you only need to Authorize Mac through the iTunes application by using the same Apple ID that you are using for your iOS device. With authorizing,  you will be allowed to backup, and transfer the purchased items on your iOS device. But, how to authorize computers for iTunes on Mac? You can follow these steps.

How To Authorize Your iTunes

You can authorize 5 computers by using 1 Apple ID, which means that you can play and store your content on 5 different computers. All you have to do is:

  • Launch the iTunes application
  • On menu bar, choose Store >> Authorize This Computer

  • On the pop up window, enter the Apple ID that you usually use then click Authorize
  • iTunes will verify and register your computer. It will tell you how many authorizations do you have.

To see how many authorizations are left, follow these simple steps:

  • On the iTunes, click on your name in the toolbar and select the Account Information

  • On the pop up window, enter the Apple ID that you usually use then click View Account
  • On the Account Information, you will see a detailed list of the information related to your iTunes account, like a payment info, billing address, active subscriptions and more. Find the section labeled Computer Authorizations. Here, you can see how many computers you have authorized.

Apple limits the amount of authorizations: 5 computers for 1 Apple ID. If you want to deauthorize your computer, Apple provides their iTunes with the deauthorize feature.

  • Launch the iTunes application
  • On the menu bar, choose Store >> Deauthorize This Computer

  • On the pop up window, enter the Apple ID that you used to authorize this computer
  • iTunes will verify your Apple ID back and delete your Apple ID authorization on this computer.
