Researchers Have Created A Software That Can Write Political Speeches

The greatest statesmen in history have written their speeches, for the most part, alone. Currently, there are people employed specifically for this task, but scientists believe they can be replaced by software. In Massachusetts, a group of researchers have created a software that can create political speeches based on 4,000 political speech segments from 53 US Congressional floor debates.

According to Gizmodo, the method of learning implies an approach called “n-grams”, promoted by Google, where to find sequences of words or phrases in order to understand how a sentence is constructed. The software was forced to chomp through no less than 50000 sentences with 23 words, on average. In each case, it was referred to the political faction that belonged to the author and the position in relation to the subject under discussion.

Here’s an example of the kind of thing it produces:

Mr. Speaker, for years, honest but unfortunate consumers have had the ability to plead their case to come under bankruptcy protection and have their reasonable and valid debts discharged. The way the system is supposed to work, the bankruptcy court evaluates various factors including income, assets and debt to determine what debts can be paid and how consumers can get back on their feet. Stand up for growth and opportunity. Pass this legislation.

The software that can write political speeches seems to have memorated enough to create a few sentences if you supply the first five words. Of course, it is unlikely to be used in the next period by any politician, but it is a remarkable achievement by scientists.
